The WOCAF Festival Atlanta, was the only festival of its kind in the southeast to exclusively present, promote and celebrate the artistic talents of women of color filmmakers and artists. Each year, films and videos from across the globe by and/or about Women of Color are screened. The music portion featured International artists Julie Dexter, Asa, St Juste, Tiwa Savage and Ikunga.
The visual arts exhibition was introduced as part of the festival in 2009 and promoted local Atlanta Women of Color visual artists.
Founded in 2005 by Mojisola Sonoiki, The WOCAF Festival served to expand the global dialogue on women’s issues through the presentation of positive empowering images in film and art. WOCAF’s goal was to utilize the arts as a powerful vehicle to inform, enrich and entertain.
The WOCAF festival has featured the works of internationally renowned filmmakers such as Tunde Kelani, Stanley Nelson, Ngozi Onwurah, Kunle Afolayan, Frances-ann Solomon, BarabarO, Branwen Okpako , Yvonne Welbon
