Barash is an independent filmmaker and journalist. She was present at the birth of CNN in 1980, starting as a researcher in medical news. Over time, she rose to the position of Senior Executive Producer, Science News. She produced network news and features in the areas of health, medicine, science and technology. Winner of a 2005 CINE Golden Eagle for her independent documentary, Fried Chicken and Sweet Potato Pie, Barash has been awarded several journalism fellowships, which have allowed her to study and teach internationally.
She received her BS degree in Zoology from the University of Georgia and her MS degree in Genetics from the University of Melbourne, Australia, where she was a Fulbright Scholar. Barash is married with one son and is an Atlanta native.
