Karen D. McKinnon
Karen has made short films under the banner of KSTAR FILMS. She obtained her undergraduate degree from Florida A&M University. She began her career before finishing her MA in Film by writing a non-fiction series on Public Art and Dance for regional PBS. Dance/Art was a series of 3 programs written for the local PBS network and broadcast regionally. Selected for a fellowship program of emerging directors at Columbia Pictures, Karen relocated to Los Angeles. In LA, she worked on numerous short film projects. She worked as a Development intern at Tri-Star Pictures. She started taking art classes as a hobby then was invited to direct some collaborations at an experimental art college. She studied at the Beaux-Arts in Paris and was invited into the ateliers of several prominent international artists. After relocating to London to attend Goldsmiths College, she continued making short films and has been funded by the UK Film Council. She is currently working on developing feature film projects. Her films have been shown in festivals and galleries across Europe, South America and the United States.
